  CNPC (China National Petroleum Corporation)

CNPC is one of the most important energy companies in the world. It is a state-run corporation whose commercial operations include a wide range of activities. CNPC engages in all stages of the oil industry, including exploration, exploitation, production, transportation and refining of hydrocarbons. It is also involved in national marketing, international commerce and the manufacture and supply of equipment.

According to the weekly publication U.S. Petroleum Intelligence, in 2009, CNPC took fifth place among the top 50 oil firms in the world, based on oil and gas reserve indexes, production figures, crude processing capacity and the sale of refined products. Furthermore, the company placed 10th among the 500 largest companies measured by sales, according to The Fortune Global 500, 2010 edition.

  SINOPEC (China Petrochemical Corporation)

The Sinopec Group is a state-run oil and petrochemical company whose activities focus on the exploration, production and refining of oil and gas as well as chemical production, marketing and product distribution.

It is the second oil-producing giant in China, with 16 oil fields in production. Sinopec is the biggest crude refining company in Asia and the third largest in the world. It is also the second leading petrochemical company in Asia, and the seventh largest in the world. In China, Sinopec is the main distributor of oil-derived products (including diesel and jet fuel, etc).

In 2010, the company ranked 7th among the 500 largest companies by sales, according to The Fortune Global 500.
